Islay Estate Agriculture

Islay Estates is managed from the Estate Office in Bridgend, by the resident Factor Willy Inglis.

The Estate consists of 38 farms of varying sizes producing beef cattle, sheep, barley and one dairy farm.

Land on Islay is very different to other West Coast islands: there is a fertile seam running down the centre which produces some very fertile land.  Beef cattle do particularly well here as the soil structure is conducive to breeding strong, healthy calves.  Barley is grown for fodder or to supply some of the island's many distilleries.
